The Planning and Development department is currently recruiting for a regular full-time Construction Site Officer to join our team of inspectors in the Building Permits Division. This is a CUPE Local 386 position.
The Construction Site Officer is responsible for the effective monitoring and compliance of a variety of construction/demolition sites in accordance with the City’s Bylaws and other legislative and regulatory requirements. The successful incumbent will play a critical role as a source of information and education to Builders and Developers as well as community stakeholders regarding construction compliance obligations and providing relevant and timely assistance, including complaint resolution, in a manner that benefits the community and stakeholder interests and reaffirms the City’s “Good Neighbour Construction” practices. The successful incumbent may also assist with the inspection of minor structures as may be required by the inspection group workload, dependent on incumbent having appropriate knowledge.
The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate an ability to build and maintain strong working relationships and work collaboratively in a team setting; provide optimum customer service; possess excellent verbal and written communication skills; work well under pressure; manage competing deadlines; and exercise independent judgement. These attributes will be matched with the completion of technical courses related to construction management or bylaw enforcement work, training in relation to the British Columbia Building Code (Part 9), plus related experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Preference is given to those with 3-5 years’ experience in a municipal government environment. There is a requirement the incumbent is able to pass and maintain a Police Information Check (PIC) and possess a valid driver’s license.
The rate of pay for this CUPE position (2020 rate) is $35.68– $42.12 per hour, based on a 35-hour work week plus a comprehensive benefits package. This position may be required to work between Mondays and Saturdays as operationally required.
