Technical Services Specialist

Temporary Full-time

The Strategic and Corporate Services Department – Information Technology Division is looking for a temporary full-time Technical Services Specialist for approximately two years.

Reporting to the Manager, Client & Technical Services, you will develop, deploy, monitor, and perform ongoing maintenance to the networks and related infrastructure.  You will ensure the functionality of and troubleshoot the networks, server based hardware and software, Active Directory, DHCP, DNS, Group Policy, and Servers.  You will also create and maintain documentation, assist the Client Services team in complex issues, and liaise with internal and external contacts.

You will be a seasoned team player with proven communication skills, and have a detail oriented and proactive approach to supporting the City’s IT infrastructure, along with the ability to work independently.  Keeping current on technological trends and developments is a passion.

You have a post-secondary diploma or degree in a relevant Information Technology discipline such as security or network, and at least five years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.  Credentials related to VMware, Firewalls, Cisco Networks Storage, and Microsoft are preferred.  A valid class 5 BC Driver’s License is also required.

For temporary full-time positions of eight (8) months or longer, a City employee who is successful on the posting will have the right to revert to their former position.

$43.04 to $50.85 per hour
(Pay Grade 28 – January 2019 rates)

Hours of Work:
Any 7 consecutive hours between 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, and may also be scheduled for a regular shift on Saturday between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., exclusive of meal breaks. The City of North Vancouver currently works on a compressed work schedule with one scheduled day off (Monday or Friday) approximately each three-week scheduling cycle.
