We are actively recruiting for Warming Centre Supervisors on an auxiliary basis who will play a vital role in our community during the winter months. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of something special for individuals in need of a warm place to sleep, by directing staff in the operation of an emergency warming centre for people struggling with a variety of issues such as homelessness, addictions and mental health. The employee provides support, supervision and assistance to homeless clients who may be facing multiple barriers; provides snacks and hot beverages. Itemizes client belongings and provides secure storage for some; provides basic necessities including power, Wi-Fi and amenities. Establishes and maintains liaison with a variety of internal and external contacts; hires, trains and supervises staff and volunteers. Ensures protocols and procedures related to pets, drugs, alcohol and general good conduct in the centre are followed; follows a communications protocol regarding media and public inquiries; completes required records and maintains statistical data. Provides first aid in the event of an emergency; contacts security, medical and protective services and custodial staff for assistance. As required, acts as a “roving supervisor” between warming centres to coordinate availability of supplies, custodial services and collection and authorization of time sheets; assists with emergency scheduling and any issues that escalate during the shift. Performs related work as required.
Qualifications include a diploma in a related field, plus sound related experience in crisis intervention including some supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Ability to supervise staff; work independently and in a team setting, to solve problems, to take initiative in addressing issues while working with disadvantaged and challenging people in a diverse environment; to manage stress and organize workload. Strong physical and mental ability to perform work tasks. Other qualifications include First Aid Certificate, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certificate – Level C and a Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia.
