The District of Houston is a municipal government which provides essential public services to the community. Our core services include the provision of safe drinking water, wastewater collection and disposal, the operation of a recreation pool and ice rink, and maintenance of local transportation networks. The municipality carries out its responsibilities with a $13.6 Million budget and a team of 47 dedicated team members performing a variety of core service delivery roles.
The District is seeking a dynamic individual with proven experience in leading a Public Works operation to join the District’s Senior Management Team as the Manager of Operations. This full-time, exempt position offers an excellent opportunity for those interested in a challenging and rewarding career in local government. Reporting directly to the Chief Administrative Officer, you will be responsible for the overall management and efficient delivery of Public Works services to the community. You will accomplish this by managing and leading a team of up to 15 equipment operators, facilities maintenance personnel, and utilities operators to assist you in core service operations.
You will bring at least five years of experience in managing a Public Works operation and show comprehensive knowledge of municipal infrastructure systems. Your interpersonal, communications, management, and leadership skills will ensure your department’s success in implementing the District’s long-term plans for the community. Your comprehensive knowledge of municipal infrastructure systems and operations will also aid you in advising the CAO and Council about service requirements for your department and the District’s Asset Management Plan.
