Transportation Infrastructure Technologist
(Engineering Assistant 3)
(Regular Full-Time)

Reporting directly the Transportation Infrastructure Manager, this is a senior technologist and supervisory position providing support and assistance to senior staff in managing, supporting data analysis and processing related to asset management and budgeting for transportation infrastructure in Surrey.


  • Preparing of technical documentation (design scope and Terms of References, tracking and reporting financial performance and budgeting for infrastructure projects, preparing funding applications).
  • Reviewing of engineering designs, preparing reports for asset management.
  • Providing mentorship and guidance to junior-level engineering staff.
  • Coordinating with the transportation team and associated project management duties.
  • Undertaking of policy and technical research and assessment for public and Council presentations.
  • Act as a key person responsible for liaising and coordinating with internal staff, external agencies including TransLink and the Ministry of Transportation & Infrastructure and responding to enquiries from consultants and the public when required.


  • Completion of a two-year diploma in Civil Engineering Technology from a recognized post-secondary institution;
  • Five years engineering experience with a demonstrated record of technical knowledge, skills and ability and supervisory experience in the relevant areas of civil engineering;
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.
  • This position requires a valid B.C. driver’s license.

  • Able to work well in a high-performing team environment and able to provide mentorship to junior-level staff.
  • The ideal candidate will have a keen interest in all aspects of urban multi-modal transportation and enjoy working in a collaborative and high performing environment.
  • Able to make decisions on issues of varying complexity without the direct involvement of a manager but able to exercise judgement on when to escalate.  
  • Possess excellent oral and written communication skills able to respond effectively with a wide range of individuals and groups including the general public, internal staff and external agencies.
