The Recreation department of the Corporate and Community Services division has an opportunity for qualified individuals to apply for the position of Lifeguard/Swim Instructor at Meadow Park Sports Centre. Reporting to the Aquatics Recreation Programmer, this position offers a variable schedule of approximately 0-60 hours bi-weekly during the sport centre operational hours of 6am to 10pm, including weekends.

The Lifeguard/Swim Instructor’s main responsibilities include safety supervision of the pool area; swim instruction for all ages; administration of first aid for the sports centre; completion of basic maintenance tasks in the pool area; and the delivery of positive sports centre guest service. Lifeguard/Swim Instructors will also assist with opening and closing of the pool facilities.

Candidates should be a fully certified and qualified Lifeguard/Swim Instructor with current NL (pool), WSI, First Aid and CPR-C certifications. NLI, WSIT and LSIT qualifications are considered an asset. Preference will be given to candidates who possess Canadian lifeguard and swim instructor certifications. Candidates must have knowledge of aquatic-related policy and procedures; water safety and first aid; demonstrate strong skills in communication, instruction and lifeguarding; and be available to work a variety of shifts between the hours of 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. The successful candidate is a positive and outgoing individual who enjoys working with people of all ages; demonstrates excellent communication skill; possesses training and teaching skills; and proves to have sound judgment for quick decision making. As a requirement of the position, the successful applicant must provide a satisfactory police information check prior to beginning employment.
