The Role: Reporting to the Chief Building Inspector, the Building Inspector is responsible for reviewing, assessing and enforcing compliance with building bylaws, codes, statutes and regulations pertaining to building safety and regulatory standards of the BC Building Code. The primary responsibility of the permanent position is in the field conducting inspections. This position will also be responsible for plan review and permit issuance, ensuring excellent service within the TNRD and seven of our member municipalities.
Required Education and Experience: You will have a minimum BOABC level 1 certification with applicable field experience.
You will have sound knowledge of:
- Residential construction plans for compliance with regulations and permit issues
- Non-compliant construction and determining appropriate action
- Inspection reports to ensure full completion
- BC Building Code and Plumbing Code
The rate of pay is based upon level of BOABC certification and experience:
- Building Inspector I $2,277.27 – $2,634.42 biweekly
- Building Inspector II $2,397.21 – $2,777.03 biweekly
- Building Inspector III $2,517.12 – $2,919.60 biweekly
The position requires frequent contact with building professionals, public and staff to request information, explain deficiencies, and provide general and technical information on building regulations. Utilizing excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and outstanding customer service skills, you shall demonstrate a considerable degree of professional judgment when evaluating conformity with codes and regulations and interacting with the customers. You have a valid Class 5 BC driver’s license, with a good driving record.
This position falls under the provisions of the Collective Agreement with the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 900.
