Intergovernmental Relations Manager


ORGANIZATIONAL PROFILE
The Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) is one of 28 regional districts in the Province of British Columbia. Regional Districts across the Province strive to ensure all provincial residents have an effective form of local government, while also representing municipal residents on regional issues. The RDN provides regional governance and services to the municipalities of Nanaimo, Lantzville, Parksville, and Qualicum Beach, as well as seven unincorporated Electoral Areas. Established in 1967, of the 28 Regional Districts in the province, the RDN is British Columbia's fifth most populous Regional District and home to more than 155,000 people.

ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Intergovernmental Relations Manager supports the RDN’s ongoing efforts to build and foster effective, high quality working relationships with other levels of government and First Nations. The Manager is responsible for providing senior level information, advice and guidance to the RDN on external influencers that impact the RDN’s services. The Manager has a key role in ensuring positive intergovernmental relationships exist with the provincial government, the federal government, First Nations, municipal partners, and other agencies. Additionally, this position will identify, assess and then recommend the implementation of best practices in the municipal sector.

QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate will have a master’s degree in public administration, planning or related field. The successful candidate will have a minimum five years of experience in the area of intergovernmental relations and direct experience working in a political environment and within complex interdisciplinary offices. The role requires excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and effective problem-solving abilities. An equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered.
