Fire Chief / Municipal Emergency Coordinator

The District of Chetwynd, seeks a leader with outstanding work ethic and a safety first attitude to join the Management Team.  The Fire Chief/Municipal Emergency Coordinator will play an integral role in supporting the District’s mission and vision for providing community protection.  This position reports directly to the Chief Administrative Officer.

The Fire Chief/Municipal Emergency Coordinator oversees operational areas of the department and directs tactical operations at fire and emergency scenes. As a valued member of the management team, this position provides input to business planning and longer term strategic planning.  This role requires a decisive, strategic thinker, who has demonstrated problem-solving abilities, excellent communication, change management, negotiation and interpersonal skills. The ideal candidate will have a progressive and inclusive management style that supports diversity.

The successful candidate must be well rounded with extensive experience in inspections, public education, prevention and operations; with complex incident command experience and undeniable leadership experience and proven in-depth knowledge of organizational performance, human resource, financial, and political issues facing Canadian emergency services organizations.

Qualifications for the role include relevant post-secondary education augmented by several years of experience as a fire fighter in a leadership role.  You possess qualifications that will clearly demonstrate your ability to manage the strategic leadership, administrative and operational functions of a complex organization as well as in building effective relationships with stakeholders and the public.  You are an effective communicator and a leader of innovation and change, and your values align with the District’s core values of accountability, integrity, respect, service excellence and passion.

A competitive salary of $101,000 and an extensive benefit package is offered.  Additional incentives include relocation expenses; and five paid flex days in addition to an annual vacation allowance.
