Clerk III (Driver Compliance Coordinator)

Main Purpose and Function
The Driver Compliance Coordinator is primarily responsible for ensuring regulatory compliance documentation regarding the Branch’s commercial vehicle fleet is promptly reviewed, compiled, and reported to the City’s Equipment Services Branch for mandatory record storage. Additionally, this position coordinates staff training to ensure drivers possess sufficient ability to safely operate the Branch’s vehicle fleet in accordance with British Columbia Motor Vehicle Act, Commercial Transport Act, and the City’s Safe Driving Policy.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities
This position will report to the Equipment Superintendent I in the Streets, Operations Branch. The primary responsibilities of this position are to review daily vehicle inspection reports for deficiencies, reduce report deficiency rate through effective communication with Superintendents, coordinate the correction of deficient reports with operators and/or Superintendents, compile / report daily deficiency data, and produce / submit weekly compliance reports to Equipment Services.

Additional responsibilities include:
  • Assessing operator training requirements, coordinating operator training with Driver Services, private training vendors, and various internal and external workgroups, and compiling operator training history
  • Assisting with completing vehicle accident investigations, reviewing vehicle accident reports for deficiencies, coordinating corrections /coaching with operators and/or Superintendents, and submitting completed vehicle accident reports to Risk Management
  • Coordinating random vehicle inspection audits with Superintendents and Driver Services, and documenting the audit results and action plans as required
  • Assisting the Equipment Office or other workgroups with related work

Education and Experience:
  • Completion of Grade 12, supplemented by commercial courses, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Considerable related experience as an Office Support Clerk III, Clerk III, or an equivalent combination of experience
  • Experience developing new and/or adapting existing workflow processes aimed at increasing efficiencies preferred
  • Experience working in an environment where a similar type of work is performed preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Working knowledge of the Branch’s vehicle/equipment fleet preferred
  • Working knowledge of the City’s Safe Driving Policy, British Columbia Motor Vehicle Act, and National Safety Code
  • Effective oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate with staff at all levels of the organization
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of MS Office applications including Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Proficiency working with SAP preferred
  • Effective keyboarding and numerical skills with speed and accuracy
  • Ability to exercise independence of judgement and action in carrying out the duties of the position
  • Ability to organize own time and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
  • Ability to follow up with various stakeholders to resolve problems
  • Proven ability to process a large volume of work with sustained accuracy and speed while handling considerable interruptions

Driver License and Record Checks
  • A current and valid Class (appropriate class for position) BC Driver’s License or higher preferred
