Reporting to the Trades Foreman 2, this position involves skilled supervisory and operational work painting high traffic volume crosswalks, or in applying road lines using road marking equipment. The Markings and Signs Worker 2 performs minor cleaning and maintenance tasks on the equipment used; operate and oversee the operation of road marking trucks; lay out new markings according to drawings; and mix and prepare road marking materials. May operate a variety of City vehicles used in transporting equipment, parts, materials, supplies, tools and employees to job sites; loads and unloads material, supplies and equipment and maintains vehicle as required. Performs other related work as required.

Qualifications include Grade 12 plus considerable experience in the use of hand-operated lining devices, road marking equipment and paint mixtures as a Markings and Signs Worker 1; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Thorough knowledge of the methods, materials and practices employed in painting various types of pavement marking in accordance with the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices for Canada (TAC) and the Traffic Control Manual for Work on Roadways; ability to recognize hazards and take the necessary safety precautions; to supervise the work of others; to be able to read and interpret drawings and have the physical ability to perform the work. Flexibility to respond to emergency calls during off-shift hours when “on-call” and work overtime evenings and weekends as required. Crane Safe Certification, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Certification, Transportation of Dangerous Goods Certification (TDG), Traffic Control Certification and Fall Protection Certification are considered assets. Class 3 BC Driver’s Licence, Air Brake Endorsement for the Province of British Columbia is required (for operation of road marking equipment; e.g. thermal plastic truck, centreline truck, crane truck, etc.).
