The City of Coquitlam is currently recruiting for a regular full-time Recreation Complex Supervisor to join our team of professionals in the Parks, Recreation, and Culture Department. This position is based at the Dogwood Pavilion, a busy 50+ recreation facility that serves the Poirier area.  It is a dynamic centre offering a wide variety of programs and services for a wide demographic. This is a CUPE Local 386 position.

Reporting to the Community Recreation Manager, you will be responsible for carrying out consultative, supervisory and specialized recreational work in the day to day administration of the operation and allocation of facility resources for the Dogwood 50+ centre, Poirier Community Centre and other area satellite facilities.  An incumbent of this class  directs, develops and coordinates a wide variety of programs, activities, services and special events; liaises extensively with the school district, local community and special advisory groups, and municipal staff.  Much of the programming in Dogwood is coordinated with the Dogwood Seniors Society who operates in an advisory capacity for the City. The position also performs a variety of administrative duties in the operation of a large recreation centre and other area satellite facilities; and supervises the work of subordinates engaged in recreation programming, instructional and clerical work.  Considerable independence of judgement and action are exercised within the limits of established policies and procedures while work performance is reviewed by a superior for quality and effectiveness and for the efficiency of centre operations.

The ideal candidate will have considerable knowledge in the areas of community recreation principles, leisure service needs of children, youth, families, and older adults, local community organizations, operations of a large recreation centre, and the ability to develop and nurture strong working relationships with community and partner organizations and other City departments. The successful candidate will also have extensive experience supervising and coaching staff.

These attributes will be matched with university graduation in recreation or another discipline related to the work, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.  A driver’s license for the Province of British Columbia is a requirement.
