Payroll and Benefits Coordinator (Exempt)


Nestled in the heart of the Okanagan Valley, Summerland is a picturesque community with a population of approximately 11,600 residents. The District of Summerland is seeking an experienced professional to fill the Payroll and Benefits Coordinator position. Reporting to the Manager of Finance, the successful candidate will responsible for:
 
  • processing and analyzing payroll; related policies, procedures and systems along with administering the benefit and pension plans for the District in accordance with the Collective Agreements and exempt employee agreements; and
  • orientating and answering questions for staff on group benefits, along with the coordination of disability management, and working with staff and supervisors on return to work plans and programs while protecting the confidentiality of sensitive information.

The ideal candidate will hold the Payroll Practitioner (PCP) certification or have a minimum of 5 years directly related experience. Comprehensive knowledge of the Employment Standards Act, Collective Bargaining Agreements, and the Income Tax Act are key requirements for this position. A high level of proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word is necessary.  Experience with Vadim software and previous local government experience is a huge asset.  A thorough knowledge and understanding of benefit administration and working hands-on with return to work programs, and benefit carriers is a must.  Due to the sensitive nature of this type of work, the ability to exercise discretion, tact, diplomacy and sound judgment is key.  The ability to pass and maintain a Police Information Check is an ongoing compulsory condition of employment.
