BC Local Government Job Posting Service
Planning and Development Technician
Golden is reinstating its Planning and Development Technician. We’re a small and growing community, so variety is the spice of our workplace. Never bored and sometimes on the run, you’ll be tasked with taking care of land use applications, co-creating and interpreting bylaws, policies and regulations; researching and reporting; public consultation, and performing related work as assigned. This may even include relief building inspections as well as grading and civil review, depending on the incumbent’s skills and knowledge, but note a large part of this position is processing of land use applications.
You’ll assist in undertaking current and long range planning processes, applying your knowledge and skills in the collection, analysis and interpretation of data for municipal studies and projects. You recommend land use changes and facilitate community planning processes and receiving input on various community planning proposals and issues.
You’ll find all the other details in our Job Description which we really think you’ll like.
What are your specific interests? We’ve designed a job that can fit where you want to focus - on planning or development. Lots of flexibility for those with a planning or technical background and room to move up a scale. Be sure you check it out, at http://www.golden.ca/Departments/Corporate-Services/Job-Postings.aspx - we think it’s pretty cool.
As a minimum you need two years of post secondary training in planning or a related field (geography, architecture, civil engineering etc.), knowledge of local government legislation and principles of planning, and a valid Driver’s License. For skills you must be able to prepare clear and concise reports, interpret technical documents and drawings, and be proficient with common office software applications.
We need a superstar communicator with an enthusiastic and positive attitude to staff and the public. Logically, we will give preference to anyone having credits toward or having their Registered Professional Planner status (or other related professional organizations).
Golden really is a spectacular place to live - but there’s not enough room here to talk about it. Check out www.golden.ca and go to the links in the top banner for information on tourism, culture, and economic development. We’ve got massive mountains, big rivers, six national parks, a ski resort, and we’re just over 2 hours to Calgary. Life in the Rockies gets no better. There’s lots of other job postings out there, but in all of BC, this is where you want to be.
