Main Purpose and Function
Engineering Services is currently accepting applications from qualified individual’s available for casual shifts as a Coin Collector in the Parking Operations Branch (prescheduled and on-call 365 days per year/ 7 days per week). Coin Collectors will be conducting fieldwork in the collection of coins deposited into street parking meters and the delivery of collections to the appropriate facility. Coin Collectors will also be reporting of all deficiencies or malfunctions, conducting equipment maintenance and the documentation of work completed.

The Coin Collections section operates 7 days/week, 365 days/year, from 8:00 am to 4:00 p.m. Excellent availability to work is a requirement and the successful candidate will be required to work weekends, statutory holidays, and periods of high vacation demand (spring breaks, summer & Christmas).

Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Coin Collectors’ responsibilities include:
  • Maintaining a high rate of availability and flexibility to work
  • Lifting and pushing of heavy loads of coin.
  • Coordination of collections from designated areas with the most efficient and effective methods.
  • Operation of a panel truck with no rear window.
  • Documenting faulty parking meters on a handheld electronic device.
  • Basic maintenance and repair of coin collecting equipment and documentation of tasks completed daily.
  • Performance of other related duties as required.

Functional and or physical assessment related to the bona fide position requirements may be required. Candidates must attach the following to be considered:
  • Commercial Driving Records Abstract (N Print) for the past 5 years
  • Insurance & Claims History for the past 5 years


Education and Experience:
  • Completion of Grade 10, preferably Grade 12, supplemented by related experience or training or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Experience laboring outside in all weather conditions.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to lift and push heavy objects, walk long distances and use small hand tools in all types of weather.
  • Sufficient physical strength and endurance to permit the lifting and carrying of heavy coin containers and to permit the use of a coin-retrieval cart.
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions and to maintain good attendance.
  • The ability to understand and follow Safe Operating Procedures and Security Protocols.
  • The ability to provide sufficient availability for work and the flexibility to work on an on-call basis.
  • Some clerical and computer skills are required, including the ability to use a small handheld computer for daily documentation of parking meter anomalies and the ability to document work completed.
  • Proven ability to deal tactfully with the public and maintain a good working relationship with co-workers, while coordinating the day's collections and sharing the workload.
  • The ability to consistently provide excellent availability for prescheduled work and to respond to short notice call-ins.

Driver License and Employment Checks
  • A Police Record Check is a requirement of the position. A clearance requires the absence of any criminal charges or convictions related to this position.
  • A current and valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and a safe driving record are required.
  • The license must not include any restrictions that would affect the ability to legally and safely carry out job responsibilities.
  • Your driving record will be reviewed as part of the application process. Candidates must demonstrate a safe driving history, as assessed by the City of Vancouver.
