Bylaw Enforcement Officer (Relief)

The City of Penticton’s Bylaw Department is in search of highly motivated and energetic applicants to join our Bylaw Enforcement Officer Relief Pool. The Bylaw Enforcement Officer assists in the day-to-day departmental operations, performs administrative functions, and is involved in the education and enforcement of the Municipal Bylaws.

The successful candidate will have considerable public contact, explaining bylaw violations, conducting detailed investigations and collecting of information and evidence from members of the public. The position also deals with complaints of a highly sensitive nature and issues that impact operational policies and procedures, as well as all regular enforcement functions.

Required Qualifications:
  • Completion of Grade 12, supplemented by Bylaw I and/or Bylaw II certification (Justice Institute of British Columbia or equivalent)
  • 3 – 5 year’s experience dealing with the public in a municipal regulatory capacity
  • Knowledge of City bylaws, adjudication hearings and City layout
  • Superior people management skills
  • Conflict management training
  • Professional credibility
  • Objective/Logical (in decision making)
  • Superior communication skills (oral and written)
  • High level of tact and diplomacy skills
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence

Note: This position involves irregular hours and days of work, and may include weekends and evenings
