The local ski hill is a short 20 minute drive from downtown Nelson.  You will enjoy, hiking, mountain biking, snowmobiling, Nordic skiing, dirt biking, canoeing, kayaking and fishing - all just outside your own back door.  Nelson has a population of approximately 10,800 people and is the envy of many for its amazing culture, beauty and amenities.   

The City of Nelson is currently seeking to fill a regular full time EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT COORDINATOR  The Emergency Management Coordinator reports to the Fire Chief/Director of Emergency Management and is responsible and accountable for administration and technical work related to emergency management and community disaster preparedness.  This position will assist the City of Nelson move forward with its goal to being the # 1 Municipality in Canada based on value for service by developing and updating numerous plans, coordinating emergency management and community disaster preparedness activities and operating in an Emergency Operations Centre environment.  The position will assist with the development and implementation of the Nelson Emergency Management Program built on the key emergency management areas of:  mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery. The incumbent will have strong interpersonal and facilitations skills, be able to foster an emergency  management culture with City staff and members of the community including but not limited to, the business sector, community service clubs, non-governmental agencies as well as working with local first responders.     

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Qualified applicants will have a Diploma, Certificate or Degree in Emergency or Disaster Management, a minimum of 2 years’ experience in emergency management or a related position.
