Bylaw Enforcement Officer / Business Licence Inspector


Located in the upper eastern Fraser Valley, the District of Kent offers a rural lifestyle with affordable housing options and easy access to outdoor pursuits. The community is conveniently situated 127 km northeast of Vancouver, 23 km from Chilliwack's urban centre, and 8 km from the resort community of Harrison Hot Springs.

Reporting to the Director of Development Services, this unionized position investigates and processes complaints concerning bylaw infractions and violations; enforces regulations and bylaws related to issues such as parking, zoning, noise, untidy premises, signs, and the alike; gathers evidence and attends adjudication hearings as a witness when necessary; coordinates business licence applications/renewals; prepares departmental reports; and explains and interprets bylaws and regulations to the public.

The work involves considerable public relations contact and requires good customer service skills in order to respond and resolve issues with tact, diplomacy and confidentiality. To compliment your successful completion of Level 1 of the Justice lnstitute's Bylaw Enforcement Program, your experience includes a minimum of three years in inspection or investigative work and/or law enforcement. Previous police training may be an asset to this position.
