Planning Analyst

The City of Port Coquitlam’s Planning Division is looking for two dynamic, self-motivated professionals with development experience to join their team as a Planning Analyst, one in a permanent full-time position and one in a temporary full-time position (anticipated duration: six months).

Working within a small team, this position offers you a great career opportunity to work on a variety of projects and initiatives relevant to guiding the sustainable growth and direction of a community-focused municipality. Your interests include land use planning, neighborhood design and sustainable development and you excel at providing excellent customer service and communications.

Working closely with the Planning team, you will:  
  • Respond to public enquiries; 
  • Review and manage land use and development applications, including report writing and preparation of presentations;
  • Undertake and assist with a variety of planning projects;
  • Research, analyze and recommend land use regulations and policies;
  • Assist in community consultation processes.

You bring enthusiasm, energy and necessary skills to our position. You have technical knowledge and experience in land development processes and excellent research and analytical skills. Your ability to produce clear and concise written communication is coupled with strong verbal and customer service skills, the ability to be flexible and adaptable in responding to changing priorities and an aptitude for problem solving.  

A Bachelor’s Degree in planning and a minimum two years’ relevant experience with a preference for an urban design, construction or architecture context is required to be considered for this opportunity. Municipal experience is also highly desirable. Alternately, we will consider candidates with a Master’s Degree in planning and a minimum one year’s relevant experience. A valid BC Class 5 Driver's Licence is required. Membership or eligibility for Candidate Membership with the Planning Institute of British Columbia is preferred.  

The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the CUPE Collective Agreement. The biweekly salary for this position starts at $2,849.55 and includes a comprehensive benefit package upon successful completion of a four-month probationary period.
