Reporting to the Senior Transportation Engineer, this position involves field and office technical and clerical work related to the investigation of traffic complaints, collection and processing of traffic movement data, vehicle classification and gathering of other field data required for traffic engineering reports and projects. The Traffic Assistant also reviews and approves a variety of applications and provides information to the public on traffic by-laws in response to enquiries and complaints. Composes correspondence and reports, prepares work orders and simple diagrams and sketches, and maintains databases, files and statistics related to the work. Performs related work as required.
Qualifications include the completion of Grade 12 supplemented by courses in civil technology or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Working knowledge of Burnaby street layouts including rules and regulations related to traffic operations. The ability to read engineering plans and input data electronically is also required. Ability to deal effectively with the public, community groups, stakeholders and agencies on a variety of issues is expected. Skill in the operation, collection, and maintenance of related operational equipment used in the work is also needed. Experience with Hansen work orders and service requests along with SAP inventory control are assets. Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia is required.
This is a temporary full time opportunity to December 31, 2019.
