Our Building Inspection Services Department is currently seeking a:

Certified Building and Plumbing Official – Level 2 or 3
Permanent Full Time

Reporting to the Manager of Building Inspection Services, the Building and Plumbing Official is primarily responsible for providing a range of building and plumbing inspection services. This includes conducting plan reviews and field inspections for compliance with applicable building and plumbing codes and relevant regulations. The building and Plumbing Official is also responsible for processing building permit applications, assisting in routine administration of departmental matters, building bylaw enforcement, and provides technical information to the general public.

The ideal candidate should have Level 3 Certification from the Building Officials Association of BC, Level 1 Plumbing Certification and a minimum of 3 years work experience in a local government environment. Level 2 Certified Building Officials with 3 years of work experience will also be considered for this position.

Candidates who are Regular and Associate One members of a Canadian Province outside of BC and have received the Part 3 - Canadian Certified Building Certification “CCBO” from ACBOA, and one of the following: ASCC – Part 3 Certification, SBOA – Class 3 Certification, MBOA – CBCO Part 3 Certification, OBOA - CBCO Large Certification, NSBBOA – CBO 2 Certification, and NBBOA – Level 3 Certification are eligible to receive the BOABC Level 3 Certification, and will also be considered for this position.

In addition to the above, applicants must have an interprovincial Trades Qualification in Carpentry or a diploma from a recognized technical institute in Building Technology and a minimum of 4 years’ building design and construction experience. Applicants must also possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence, and be able to provide a satisfactory criminal record check upon request.

This is a unionized position with CUPE 2254. Includes a comprehensive benefit package. Based on a 35 hour work week between April and September and a 37.5 hour work week between October and March. The rate of pay is based on the level of certification. The 2019 rate of pay for this position is $39.32 per hour for Level 2 and $43.44 per hour for Level 3
