Assistant Supervisor, Urban Forestry
Regular Full Time Position
Saanich has an exciting opportunity in the Parks Division for a personable, enthusiastic and positive team leader within the Urban Forestry Section. Under the general direction of the Parks Urban Forestry and Natural Areas Supervisor, this position coordinates and participates in the management and maintenance of Saanich’s urban forest on public lands. The Assistant Supervisor is responsible for providing coaching, training and orientation to staff and volunteers; assisting in project development, implementation and coordination; planning, assigning, supervising, inspecting and assisting in the work of the Section; maintaining effective work schedules; taking action on day to day problems; assisting with budgeting and estimating; and ensuring the safety of staff and the public. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, coupled with effective leadership are required.
Requirements include a Degree or Diploma in Arboriculture or horticulture from a recognized post-secondary institution; or current I.S.A. Certified Arborist designation supplemented by at least 5 years aboriculture experience; minimum three years progressive experience in a position related to the work of the section; supervisory skills training and a minimum of six months supervisory experience in a related operational work area; possession of, or ability to obtain, an I.S.A. Certified Tree Risk Assessor Certificate and ISA Certification; possession of a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence and possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid BC Pesticide Applicator Certificate. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
