 ICMA’s Annual Awards Program

Each year, ICMA recognizes outstanding contributions to the local government management profession through the Annual Awards Program. Awards are conferred to individuals for career excellence; development of new talent; excellence in leadership as an assistant (regardless of title); and, academic contributions to the profession.

ICMA’s Annual Awards Program also recognizes outstanding local government programs in the areas of community health and safety; community sustainability; and strategic leadership and governance.

If you are an International member of ICMA, we ask that you consider which colleagues in your country have made a significant difference in their community or to the profession. Do you know of a colleague who has implemented an innovative program that addressed a critical community need, improved quality of life for residents, or saved the local government valuable resources? If so, please encourage the individual or local community to apply for an ICMA Annual Award in 2012.

ICMA strongly encourages applications from members and communities outside of the United States.  Nominations for 2012 Annual Awards are being accepted through March 16th.  Award recipients will be honored by ICMA through a featured, commemorative insert in a fall issue of Public Management (PM) magazine and spotlight recognition at the 98th ICMA Annual Conference in Phoenix/Maricopa County, Arizona this October.

The Awards Evaluation Panel is chaired by Kevin Helms, City Manager, Oak Hill, Tennessee and is co-chaired by Douglas E. Matthews, Chief Communications Director, Austin, Texas.  International panel members include Paul Buckley, Chief Executive Officer, Latrobe, VIC, Australia and Anthony De Fazio, Manager Civic Services, Whitehorse, VIC, Australia.

Full information on the 2012 ICMA Annual Awards, including the process for nominating an individual or community is available online (www.icma.orgawards). Please e-mail [email protected] or call 202-962-3656 with any questions.
