CAMA: AN ASSOCIATION FOR EVERYONE – SMALL, LARGE, URBAN AND RURAL!

Which neighbouring local government leaders would benefit from access to CAMA`s resources? Who in your organization is ready for leadership development?

As you know, CAMA is a national, non-profit association of Chief Administrative Officers, City/Town Managers and Senior Local Government Managers (direct reports) from all parts of Canada. We focus on supporting you to excel as a leader in the everchanging environment of a Canadian community.  Our members come from large and small, rural and urban municipalities.

How do larger municipalities provide a voice for smaller municipalities? Check out the video from Glen Davies, CAO Gravenhurst to get his take on the value of CAMA membership.   Janice Baker is the CAO of one of Canada’s largest municipalities, Mississauga.  Ever wondered how she benefits from CAMA? Listen to what she has to say. Ever wished you had a ringside seat on a national level and considered being more involved in CAMA? Tim Anderson, CAO with the City of Waterloo has thoughts on that subject.  Check out his comments here!

Make sure you follow CAMA on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, so you can share the videos and other content!

As a special offer, new members will receive 50% off our already great value membership fees for the first year.    Also, if they join between October 2018 and March 2019, they will not be invoiced again until March 2020.  Our membership fees are based on the population for the Primary Member and are currently just $137.50 for any additional members in your municipality.

Take a minute now, and forward this email to your direct reports, colleagues and neighbours who are on track for municipal leadership positions in all size municipalities and make CAMA better for all.   Click here for the on-line registration link!   If they join before November 30th, 2018, each new member will get their name entered in to a draw to win a free registration to the 2019 CAMA Conference being held in Québec City from May 27-29, 2019!  First time member delegates to the Conference also receive a discounted rate of $150.00 off the regular member rate.

Sincerely,

Marc Landry
CAMA President

CAMA POLITICAL ACUMEN TOOLKIT
Thank you to those CAMA members who took the time to complete the recent survey providing your thoughts on the topic of politcal acuity.  We had a tremendous response and gained some excellent feedback that will help us develop the Political Acumen Toolkit to be launched at the 2019 CAMA Conference in Quebec City in May.  If you have a case study on this topic that you would like to share and you feel would help other municipal employees, please contact Jennifer Goodine, CAMA Executive Director, at [email protected].

Political acuity is a skill – one that can be learned, but must also be practiced and honed. Bev Hendry, CAO to the Township of West Lincoln, CAMA Board Member-At-Large, and the Chair of the Political Acumen Toolkit Committee chats with Municipal World CEO Susan Gardner about the CAMA toolkit and how CAOs, now and in the future, can become more self-aware and bring this skillset into their everyday tasks.
NOVEMBER: FALL PREVENTION MONTH
November is National Fall Prevention Month and, according to fallpreventionmonth.ca, slips, trips and falls not only account for $3.4 billion in direct health care costs in older adults, but also send 215 of them to the hospital every day. This also makes up a number of claims and litigation municipalities experience.  Canadian organizations participate by planning initiatives and sharing evidence-based information on fall prevention. Together we can raise the profile of fall prevention and help everyone see their role in keeping adults active, independent and healthy as they age.
CAO SURVIVAL SKILLS POST-ELECTION
At the 2018 OMAA Fall Workshop in Muskoka, ON, Sandra Pupatello from Canadian International Avenues Ltd. chatted with Municipal World CEO Susan Gardner about “CAO Survival Skills Post Election” -- unique opportunities that come with a new term of Mayor and Council.  There are some great tips on political acuity, succession planning and women in leadership roles.
