| Call for Expression of Interest for 2019 CAMA Awards of Excellence Sub-Committee |

CAMA’s Awards of Excellence Program encourages the improvement of the art of municipal management to recognize the specific contributions achieved by members of the Association, and to publicize these to other members as well as to the general public.
The 2019 CAMA Awards Committee is Chaired by Board member Louis Coutinho and we are seeking four additional members. The time commitment is as follows:
- There are usually between 40-50 award submissions to review which are a maximum of 2,000 words in length (approximate time 8-10 hours). These submissions are evaluated based on set criteria and are forwarded to the Committee electronically.
- The submission deadline for the awards is February 21st, 2019 with the Committee reviewing the submissions between March 4th-14th, 2019.
- A Conference Call will be held with the Committee the week of March 18th, 2019 to review the submissions and make a decision on the winners.

| FCM Scholarships for Young Women: Deadline is December 15 |
|
The Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) is accepting nominations for a pair of scholarships that recognize young women interested in getting involved in local government. The deadline to apply for the Andrée P. Boucher Memorial Scholarship and the Canadian Women in Municipal Government Scholarship is December 15, 2018. This year, a total of $14,000 in scholarships will be awarded to high school, college and university students across Canada. FCM established these scholarships to support young women who demonstrate leadership and interest in local government, and to encourage others to get involved in their community. The scholarships are part of FCM’s initiative to reach parity in municipal councils across Canada.
Andrée P. Boucher Memorial Scholarship
This $4,500 scholarship is presented to a female college or university student deemed to have submitted the best research paper on a topic related to women in politics.
Two André P. Boucher Scholarships will be awarded.
- One to a student at the college/university undergraduate level; and
- One at the university graduate level.
Canadian Women in Municipal Government Scholarship
These $1,000 scholarships are presented to outstanding high school students for their involvement in their school’s leadership team or student council.
Five regional scholarships will be presented across Canada this year, one each for British Columbia,the Prairies and Territories, Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic Canada.

| Are you Speaking to Local Community Groups or Businesses about Local Government: Remember CAMA'S Making Life Happen Campaign |
 The “Making Life Happen” program was created in partnership with other Provincial Associations, with a mandate of raising awareness of local government with a specific focus encouraging younger Canadians to consider a municipal career. The next time you or your staff are asked to speak to local community groups or businesses, explain local government and the role of the CAO, or talk to students about municipal government careers, “Making Life Happen” will give you the building blocks for a memorable presentation. Tailor a message from your own municipality using the elements and main messages we have created, including a powerpoint presentation with speaking notes and handouts. We are also pleased to have a bilingual website for this campaign: http://www.makinglifehappen.ca. Under the Resource Section/Recruiting the Next Generation of the CAMA Website you will find all of the promotional materials that are print ready and are provided to you in separate English and French documents along with instructions.
