CAMA’s National Conference Just Days Away
After a year of planning, Chief Administrative Officers (CAOs), City Managers and senior municipal employees from across Canada are just days away from gathering in Fredericton, NB for the Canadian Association of Municipal Administrators (CAMA) national conference.
 
Taking place from May 28-30, 2018, the theme for this three-day professional development event is “Maximizing Opportunity – Mitigating Risk”. The event will feature keynote speakers, study tours, plenary sessions, networking/social events, and an interactive tradeshow, among other activities.
 
A variety of pre-conference activities are planned for May 28.  These include a pre-conference workshop about infrastructure asset awareness and education, as well as the association’s annual golf tournament and local tours.  There will also be a Provincial/ Territorial Association meeting, a president’s reception for sponsors and exhibitors, as well as a first time delegates’ reception.  The day ends with the Conference opening reception.
 
Day one of the Conference – May 29 – gets underway with CAMA’s Annual General Meeting.  This will be followed by the opening keynote, with speaker Richard Worzel, who will talk about “Communities of Tomorrow – Where Will the Future Come to Live?”  Following a break, the morning will end with a plenary session called “Beyond Engagement: Find out What Matters Most.” by Brady Wilson of Juice Inc.
 
Long Service Awards will be presented at the noon-time luncheon.  This will be followed by two concurrent sessions for delegates to choose from:  “Securing the Smart Municipality” and “Adapting to Climate Change: Increasing Cities Resilience.”  Following a break, two more concurrent sessions will be held:  “Enterprise Risk Management for Local Government” and “Smart City Visions and Strategies (Infrastructure and Communities).”
 
The day will end with a young professionals’ reception, a Big City networking reception, and a Maritime Kitchen Party … an ever popular Down East experience.
 
May 30 – the second day of the conference – starts with a plenary session by Dr. Linda Duxbury called “The Tsunami of Demographic Change: Will the Public Sector Drown?”  Following a break, there will be another plenary session called “How to Build a Strong Succession Plan for Your Organization,” with Lori Kelly, Nadia Falcone, and Eric Walker.
 
Meg Soper will present the closing keynote called “Wit, Fit, and Balance … Strategies for Success.”  This will be followed by the CAMA Awards of Excellence Luncheon. In the afternoon, there will be three study tours looking at the growth of Fredericton’s microbrewery business, Lean Six Sigma and Asset Management.  The day, and conference, concludes with the President’s reception, where CAMA’s Honorary Life Member Award will be presented, and the President’s dinner.
