TWO DAYS LEFT TO REGISTER! CAMA Conference 2017: Exploring What’s Ahead for Local Government
 
From May 29-31, 2017, Chief Administrative Officers (CAOs), City Managers and senior municipal employees from across Canada will gather in Gatineau, QC for the annual Canadian Association of Municipal Administrators (CAMA) national conference.  You can still register for this event until May 12th by visiting the Conference webpage.
 
“Exploring What’s Ahead for Local Government” is the theme for this three day professional development event that will feature keynote speakers, networking / social events, and an interactive tradeshow, as well as study tours in Gatineau and Ottawa.
 
A variety of pre-conference activities are planned for May 29, including the association’s annual golf tournament and local tours.  There will also be a provincial / territorial association meeting, a president’s reception for sponsors and exhibitors, as well as a first time delegates’ reception.  The day ends with the conference opening reception in the tradeshow area.
 
Day one of the conference – May 30 – kicks off with CAMA’s annual general meeting, followed by the conference opening ceremonies.  The opening keynote speaker will be Michael “Pinball” Clemons, Vice-Chair of the Toronto Argonauts, who will talk about “Winning Against The Odds”.
 
The morning concludes with a plenary session called “Understanding and Navigating the Political Waters” featuring former Mississauga mayor, Hazel McCallion, moderated by Janice Baker, City Manager/CAO for the City of Mississauga.  CAMA’s CAO Performance Evaluation Toolkit will also be launched publicly at this session.
 
Lunch will see Long Service Awards presented to CAMA members, followed by a variety of afternoon concurrent sessions.  The first sessions will feature the “Launch of CAMA’s Next Generation Project and Presentation by Insights West” or a presentation called “Navigating the Digital Landscape”.
 
The next sessions will feature a presentation on “Succession Planning for the New Government Workforce” or “Lean Six Sigma Across the Country”.  The day will end with a Young Professionals reception, followed by a casual night out on the Ottawa River Queen boat cruise. 
  
The second day of the conference – May 31 – gets underway with breakfast, followed by the two plenary sessions.  The first is called “Next Big Things 2.0 – A Deeper Look at Four Things” and the second is called “Building a Culture of Engagement”.  The morning ends with a closing conference keynote called “The Ultimate Ending” by professional speaker and storyteller extraordinaire, Paul Huschilt.  You won't want to miss this session!
 
The CAMA Awards of Excellence Luncheon will follow at noon.  Following the conference closing ceremonies, conference delegates will get to choose from a variety of study tours, including the Residential Community Project Zibi, Ottawa 2017 and Inspiration Village (150 Celebrations), the 5S Methodology for Safe and Effective Work Environments, and Moore Farm – Urban Agriculture Community Project.
 
In the evening, conference delegates will gather for the President’s Dinner at the spectacular Canadian Museum of History where the CAMA Honourary Life Member Award will be presented.
