Congratulations to Board Member Elect for New Brunswick & Notice of Election for the 2017-2018 CAMA Board of Directors
During our recent election process for the 2017-2018 CAMA Board of Directors there were four positions available: one for New Brunswick, one for the Member-At-Large, one for Alberta, and one for the Yukon Territory, Northwest Territories and Nunavut.
The Board of Directors is pleased to announce that we had one nomination for New Brunswick. Thus, by acclamation, we would like to congratulate Mr. Marc Landry, current CAO for the Town of Beaumont, Alberta who will be starting his new position with the City of Moncton, New Brunswick in mid-April 2017. Marc will take on his new role as the Board member for New Brunswick after the CAMA Annual General Meeting being held on Tuesday, May 30th, 2017 in Gatineau, Québec.
 Marc Landry will be starting his position as City Manager for the City of Moncton, New Brunswick in mid-April 2017. Moncton is a bilingual community and is now the largest municipality in the Province of New Brunswick.
Landry previously served as Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of Beaumont, Alberta for over 9 years. Beaumont is the 5th fastest-growing community in Canada. Before moving to Alberta, Landry was the CAO of Bouctouche, New Brunswick for 5 ½ years. Upon commencing in that role, he was recognized as the youngest person to occupy a CAO position in Canada.
Landry was selected as one of 230 Canadians to participate in the Governor General’s Leadership Conference, and successfully completed the International City/County Management Association (ICMA) Leadership Program. Landry is currently on the ICMA Board of Directors as one of the International Vice-Presidents, representing all city managers across Canada.
In 2013, Landry joined the Canadian Association of Municipal Administrators (CAMA) Board of Directors, representing Alberta and the Northwest Territories, and in 2016-2017 held the position of 2nd Vice-President. During his time on the Board, he has worked on several important initiatives supporting the next generation, increased partnerships with several organizations such as the ICMA, Federation of Canadian Municipalities, and with Federal government representatives.
Landry holds Bachelor and Master of Business Administration degrees from l’Université de Moncton and completed the Seniors Executive Institute Program at the University of Virginia. He has been involved in extensive municipal international work, assisting communities in Louisiana following Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, as well as working with city managers in South Africa, Mozambique and Swaziland on a Rotary International Program. In his role as CAO of Beaumont, Landry also had the opportunity to work with communities in Cambodia on capacity-building initiatives under the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM). In recognition, FCM awarded Landry and the organization an award of excellence for their outstanding international work.

An election for these three positions on the Board of Directors is therefore required. Voting will take place commencing on Monday, May 1st, 2017 at 8:30 a.m. AST and finishing on Friday, May 5th, 2017 at 4:30 p.m. PST.
CAMA is a national organization and when elections are held, every Regular Member, regardless of the Province or Territory you work in, votes for the candidate of your choice in each respective jurisdiction. You are therefore eligible to vote for one nominee for Member-At-Large, one nominee for Alberta, and one nominee for Yukon Territory, Northwest Territories and Nunavut. Further information regarding the procedures for voting will be distributed electronically to all CAMA members eligible to vote, prior to the commencement of the voting period.
Please also note that only CAMA members in good standing with membership fees paid for the current fiscal year (April 1st, 2017 to March 31st, 2018) will be eligible to vote.
Winner of PSD-CAMA Writing Competition In Municipal Management Announced
Public Sector Digest and CAMA partnered to launch a Paper Writing Competition in Municipal Management in order to introduce Canada's future leaders to the dynamic world of municipal governance. This provided graduate students across the country with the opportunity to explore complex issues in municipal administration, potentially fostering interest in working in the sector. Congratulations to Catalina Blumenberg. Born in Chile and raised in Canada, Catalina is a graduate student in Western University’s Masters in Public Administration Local Government Program. Catalina will present her winning paper to Canada’s municipal administrators at CAMA’s annual conference in Gatineau, Quebec. Call for Nominations: 2017 ICMA Distinguished Service Awards and Honorary Memberships
Distinguished Service Award
The ICMA Distinguished Service Award is given to a manager who has been retired from the profession for a minimum of 2 years and has made an outstanding contribution to the management profession and local government. Nominations will be accepted until APRIL 24, 2017. The award is not given to recognize years of service in local government. Rather, it recognizes a manager whose service in his or her community or communities has been judged by peers as strong or exceptional, and who has made major contributions beyond direct service to local government. Specific career activities to be considered include:
- A consistent pattern of leadership in regional, state, and national management associations.
- A pattern of support to peers, colleagues, and young people entering the profession as a mentor, counselor, or "sage."
- A history of developing and implementing innovative programs and sharing and disseminating these through writing, participation on conference sessions, or direct assistance through a one-on-one peer assistance program.
- Teaching, lecturing, and/or supervising of interns through an undergraduate or graduate public administration program over an extended period of time.
- Development of a special area of expertise that has been exhibited and recognized, both within the community and by peers.
In summary, the individual has to have made a lasting impact on the community and the profession. A nomination for the Distinguished Service Award may be made by any member of ICMA, but self-nominations will not be accepted. Use this form to submit a nomination. A maximum of two awards will be conferred each year.
