2013 CAMA Conference Open for Registration

Registrations are now being accepted for CAMA's 42nd Annual Conference being held in Victoria, British Columbia, from May 27-29, 2013 at the Fairmont Empress and the Victoria Conference Centre.  The Conference theme is "Leadership Excellence”.
 
Please note that there is an early bird registration fee this year if you sign up by April 1st, 2013.

Registration fees include all Conference sessions, a complimentary delegate gift, Tradeshow, Opening Reception, breakfasts, refreshment breaks, lunches, Casual Night Out at the Royal BC Museum and a “Taste of Victoria”, President’s Dinner and the Hospitality Suites.  Additional tickets to the Casual Night Out ($115.00) and the President’s Dinner ($125.00) can be purchased for companions not participating in the full Companion Program.  An additional fee of $25.00 (+ $3.00 HST) will be charged for the Study Tours.

The registration fee for Retired Members and Municipal Interns includes all Conference sessions, a complimentary delegate gift, Tradeshow, Opening Reception, breakfasts, refreshment breaks, Casual Night Out at the Royal BC Museum and a “Taste of Victoria”, and the Hospitality Suites.  At an additional cost, tickets can be purchased to the lunches ($35.00), the Study Tours ($25.00), and the President’s Dinner ($125.00).

Using the links below, members can register for the Conference, the Golf Tournament, the Companion's Program, and purchase additional event tickets.  Have your credit card ready.  For those wishing to pay by cheque, register online then forward payment to the CAMA National Office.  Registering online is the only way to sign up for this year's Conference. Are You Attending the FCM Conference In Vancouver?
If you are planning to attend the FCM Conference in Vancouver from May 31st to June 4th, 2013 (following the CAMA Conference in Victoria) here are some transportation options:

Harbour Air (http://www.harbour-air.com/).  Operates flights almost hourly that depart from the Inner Harbour (located directly across the street from the Victoria Conference Centre and the Fairmont Empress Hotel)  One way fares are $159.32 and the travel time is approximately thirty minutes.
 
Bus Transportation (http://www.pacificcoach.com/).  Buses depart the Victoria terminal (beside the Victoria Conference Centre and the Fairmont Empress Hotel) every two hours with a one way fare of $35.00.  The travel time is approximately 3.5 hours to downtown Vancouver.
 
Helijet.    A Sikorsky S76 helicopter departs off of Ogden Point which is a 15 minute taxi ride from the Fairmont Empress Hotel.  These flights are direct to downtown Vancouver.  Flights are direct to downtown Vancouver and their fares can be found on their website at www.helijet.com

Addressing Municipal Water Priorities

QUEEN ELIZABETH II DIAMOND JUBILEE MEDAL RECIPIENTS






A new commemorative medal was created to mark the 2012 celebrations of the 60th anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s accession to the Throne as Queen of Canada. The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal is a tangible way for Canada to honour Her Majesty for her service to this country. At the same time, it serves to honour significant contributions and achievements by Canadians.  CAMA is pleased to recognize recipients from our member community. 

Over the next several months, we will be featuring our members that received this prestigious award.










Murray Clarke, CAO, Municipality of Kincardine, ON


 

 
Congratulations to Murray Clarke --a proven leader with over 30 years in senior municipal management positions. Murray's strengths in communications, project management, human resources, economic development and financial administration have made him a recognized authority in provincial/municipal relations.  He started his career in 1980 at the Township of Georgian Bay as assistant to the Clerk Treasurer , before moving on to Erin Township ON, where he spent 12 years as CAO and then served 11 years in Bracebridge, ON as the CAO.  Clarke also worked as CAO for Sydney, BC for five years. Acknowledged for his progressive and flexible management style, Murray is currently the Chief Administrative Officer for the Municipality of Kincardine, ON.  Murray is married to Joan Eaglesham, and has three daughters.


Simon Farbrother, City Manager, City of Edmonton, AB


 
 
Simon has dedicated his career to building strong Canadian cities.  He joined the City of Edmonton as City Manager in 2010, after more than 20 years in municipal governments in Alberta and Ontario.  Through his service in several professional associations, Simon has worked to strengthen and promote the profession of municipal management and champion public service as a career of choice.  Simon served as President of CAMA in 2007. This Fall, Simon will begin a term as President of the International City/County Managers Association.
