CAMA President Receives Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal

Ron Shaw, CAMA President with Mayor Dan Mathieson, City of Stratford, ON

Ron Shaw, President of the Canadian Association of Municipal Administrators (CAMA), received the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal, last night at the City of Stratford’s Council meeting where he is employed, for his outstanding contribution to the municipal civil service.

Mr. Shaw began his career as a research associate with the Association of Municipalities of Ontario, before moving to the Town of Kincardine, ON, where he worked twelve years, first as Treasurer & then as Clerk-Administrator.  In 1993, he began employment with the City of Stratford as Clerk-Administrator and in 1998 became Chief Administrative Officer.  Mr. Shaw holds the distinction of celebrating twenty-seven years as a Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) in Ontario, serving in just two municipalities.

“Receiving the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal is such a wonderful honour,” says Mr. Shaw. “To be nominated by Mayor Dan Mathieson and City Council means a lot to me.  I am proud to work for the City of Stratford in service to this community and to call it home”.

Mr. Shaw is the Past President of the Association of Municipal Managers, Clerks & Treasurers of Ontario (AMCTO) and a recipient of their Prestige Award in 2004.  He also served eight years on the Ontario Municipal Administrators’ Association (OMAA) Board of Directors, rising to President in 2010-2011.  Mr. Shaw received the OMAA Long Service Award in 2011, recognizing twenty-five years as a CAO.

In 2008, Mr. Shaw was appointed as the Director-At-Large to the Canadian Association of Municipal Administrators Board and currently serves as President.  He previously held positions as Treasurer, First Vice-President and Co-Chair of CAMA’s New Strategic Plan.  In May 2012, he received the CAO Distinguished Service Award for twenty-five years as a CAO.

“We are extremely proud of Ron, and the tremendous contribution he has made to local government,” says Jean Savard, First Vice-President of the CAMA Board of Directors. “His leadership within Ontario, and now as the President of CAMA, is to be commended, and we congratulate him on this outstanding and well-deserved honour”.

In addition to his professional career, Mr. Shaw has been an active Rotarian for over thirty years, having served in the Stratford Rotary Club as Chair, Director and then elected President in 2006-2007.  He received the Rotary’s Paul Harris Fellow Award in 1990 in Kincardine, and again in 2007 in Stratford.
