What are the benefits of becoming a CivicInfo BC member?
To partially fund ongoing operations, the CivicInfo BC Society offers memberships to organizations and individuals who are a part of BC's local government community.
When you become a CivicInfo BC member, your dues helps to ensure continued free access to local government information, including:
- Thousands of documents containing valuable management information.
- Weekly newsletters.
- Local Government news stories.
- Local Government job postings.
- Information about events and professional development opportunities
Other benefits of membership include:
- Substantial discounts when jobs are posted through the Local Government Management Association / CivicInfo BC Job Posting Circular Service.
- A voice in the governance of the CivicInfo BC Society, giving you an opportunity to help share the services CivicInfo BC will provide in the future.
When one considers the cost savings an organization can realize by using CivicInfo BC's information resources, membership dues is a bargain that can easily pay for itself several times over. What are the membership categories?
Corporate Founding Member
Each organization listed as "Applicants for Incorporation"
for the CivicInfo BC Society is a member and may designate an authorized
representative to represent them and have full member rights.
Corporate Member
An organization or corporation that meets membership criteria as outlined
in Section 23 of the Bylaws may appoint one authorized representative
and two Associate members. The authorized representative has the right
to serve as a director an officer.
Regular Member
A person who meets the membership criteria may be accepted as a Regular
Member and have full membership rights including serving as a director
and officer.
Associate Member
A person that does not meet the criteria for Regular Membership may
be accepted as an Associate member but this class of member does not
have voting rights and cannot serve as a director or officer.
Student Member
A person that does not meet other membership criteria who is enrolled
in a post-secondary institution and has an interest in the affairs of
CivicInfo BC Society, may be accepted as a Student member, but this
class of member does not have voting rights and cannot serve as a director
or officer.
What are the membership criteria?
Corporate Founding Member
A member of an organization listed as "Applicants for Incorporation"
for CivicInfo BC Society who is authorized by that organization.
Corporate Member
An organization or corporation that is a "public authority"
as defined in the Local Government Act of British Columbia or an organization
of employees of a "public Authority". (ie: MISA, GFOA, etc).
Corporate membership entitles the organization or corporation to appoint
one authorized representative and two Associate members. The authorized
representative has the right to serve as a director and officer.
Regular Member
A person appointed, elected, or employed, or previously employed by
a "public authority" as defined in the Local Government Act
of British Columbia.
Associate Member
A person that does not meet the Regular Membership criteria but has
an interest in the affairs of CivicInfo BC.
Student Member
A person that does not meet other membership criteria who is enrolled
in a post-secondary institution and has an interest in the affairs of
CivicInfo BC Society, may be accepted as a Student member, but this
class of member does not have voting rights and cannot serve as a director
or officer.
What are the annual dues?
Annual membership dues are collected beginning March 1st of each year, and memberships are valid for one calendar year from that date. Membership dues are as follows:
| Corporate Founding Member | Nil, in recognition of financial contributions made to planning and development, 1998-2000 |
| Corporate Member | Based on UBCM dues formula for local government. For all others $300.00 per annum. |
| Regular Member | $200.00 per annum |
| Associate Member | $150.00 per annum |
| Student Member | $5.00 per annum |
