ICIS Awards Over $250,000 to Local Governments
By Integrated Cadastral Information Society

VICTORIA - The Integrated Cadastral Information Society (ICIS) has awarded over $250,000 to local governments in BC through the CivicSpatial Grant Program.

The CivicSpatial Grant Program is a funding initiative sponsored by certain ICIS Utility members (TELUS, BCHydro, Terasen Gas and Shaw Communications), ICIS Provincal Government members (Integrated Land Management Bureau and BC Assessment) and the Real Estate Foundation and is designed to help local governments improve their cadastral fabric and provide value to all ICIS members.

Grants range from a one-time grant of $1,500 for local governments who maintain current spatial data with ICIS to grants of up to $20,000 for more complex projects that improve the accuracy of the cadastral or property fabric. This funding can also assist local governments that have limited digital mapping capacity.

All local governments and First Nations are eligible for funding based on their ability to share data with ICIS members and each project is evaluated on its own merit on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Since its launch in 2007, over 30 local governments have received funding through this program and many have provided an ICIS Member Profile highlighting their successes; realized with support from the CivicSpatial Grant Program.

ICIS and its funding sponsors will continue to support CivicSpatial projects in 2010. By helping local governments improve data currency and accuracy, ICIS is facilitating the collaborative sharing and integration of spatial data for the economic and social benefit of BC.

For more information on the CivicSpatial Grant Program, please contact Ann Archibald at 250-381-9295 or aarchibald@icisociety.ca. For more information on the application process or to apply, please check out the Apply Now link on the ICIS website.
