By Capital Regional District

VICTORIA - The Capital Regional District has won two Government Finance Officer's Association (GFOA) awards for its 2006 Annual Reports. This is the fourth year in a row the CRD has been awarded the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting and the third consecutive year it has been awarded the Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting.

The Canadian Award for Financial Reporting is the highest form of recognition in the area of government financial reporting and is indicative of the Capital Regional District's commitment to full disclosure and transparency. The CRD has won this award nine times.

"We are very proud to receive this award which is a testament to how the District is ensuring its financial information is accessible and presented in a format easily understood by residents of the Capital Region," said Board Chair Denise Blackwell."

The Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting is a prestigious award recognizing conformance with the highest standards for preparation of local government popular reports. In order to achieve this honour, a local government must publish a Popular Annual Financial Report, whose contents conform to program standards of creativity, presentation, understandability and reader appeal. The CRD has won this award three times.

"This report is an important tool for providing transparent information and being accountable to the public," said Diana Lokken, General Manager, Corporate Services. "I would like to commend our staff on their dedication to delivering best practices in financial reporting."

The CRD 2006 Comprehensive Annual Report and Popular (Community) Annual Financial Report are available online at www.crd.bc.ca/about/departments/finance.htm, or a hardcopy is available by contacting Georgia Andrews, Senior Administrative Secretary, (250) 360-3009.
