Mission Streets Honour War Heros
By District of Mission

MISSION - In July 1943, Rosalie & Clifford Kettley received a dreaded telegram at their farm on Cherry Avenue in Mission. Their son Clifford "Jack" Kettley had been shot down and killed in Holland. That sacrifice was honoured as the first street in the District of Mission's project of naming streets after those who died in the two wars was initiated.

"We have previously named streets after veterans who were long time Mission residents", explained Mayor James Atebe, "but in this new program the street signs will be special, with a 'Legion Poppy' making the sign's origin clear."

Mayor Atebe added, "We are proud to have taken this step to recognize those whose sacrifice guaranteed our freedom and I hope every time we see the Poppy on those signs we remember."
