The City of Nanaimo is recruiting for a permanent full-time Junior Applications Analyst to join our team of professionals in the Information Technology Department and offering a career path with this position that can take you to a Senior Application Analyst level.
Under the direction of the Manager of Business Applications, the Junior Applications Analyst plays an apprenticeship role in developing, designing, implementing and supporting the City’s business applications. The incumbent participates as a member of development team and acts in a support capacity to senior staff members. The incumbent exercises independent judgment and action in performing the duties and refers matters of major impact or policy to the Manager of Business Applications.
The candidate we are looking for will have thorough knowledge in structured, event driven, object oriented programming with proficiency in Web 2.0 using ASP.NET and C#/Visual Basic. The candidate will also be proficient in:
- Client and server side scripting tools such as PHP, ASP, Visual Basic or JavaScript
- HTML, CSS and DHTML
- Relational database development in environments such as Microsoft SQL
- Writing SQL queries, data analysis/modeling, data migration and other tasks related to database administration
Your education will include a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science from a recognized University or Technical Institute, with a minimum of three (3) months’ experience. You must be eligible for Certification as an Information Systems Professional of Canada (I.S.P.) and hold a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License.
This is a unionized position; $25.99 - $27.36 per hour (Jan 2008 Rate), based on a 35 hour work week. After completing different performance requirements this position could grow into an Application System Analyst and later to a Senior Application System Analyst.
