Maintenance Technician II (Operations System Technician) Comp. 08-0279

There is an immediate opening for a full time regular Operations System Technician in the Mechanical Shop of the Building Trades and Maintenance Branch, Planning and Operations Division of the Board of Parks and Recreation. This position is open to male and female candidates.
Duties:
This is supervisory and highly skilled maintenance work in the controlling, monitoring, initiating and installing of Building Automation Systems (BAS), DDC and Energy Management systems which control the heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC) systems and refrigeration plants in the various major recreational facilities, buildings, marinas, concessions and golf courses. The successful candidate will effectively oversee all the BAS, DDC panels, Multinet and the various generaton of Delta systems, and be expected to support, expand and install systems with cost effective sensor points to maximize energy cost avoidance while ensuring user comfort and functionality; transcribe building system plans using system graphic software, and be able to install, troubleshoot, test, calibrate, repair and maintain HVAC and refrigeration related pneumatic and electronic instrumentation and control devices. The position accepts responsibility and is accountable for field operations and completes assignments with minimal supervision. Provides estimates of work and performs related tasks as required.
Qualifications:
Along with a recognized diploma/certificate in Electronic Engineering Technology (Automation/Instrumentation) and/or a Trades Qualified Industrial Instrumentation Mechanic, recognized in B.C., or accepted equivalency, the successful candidate should have two (2) years’ recent related experience. They should also be familiar with various methodologies, innovations, best practices and regulatory requirements of WCB and WHMIS and be conversant with control strategies of BAS, DDC, EMS, PLC and ASHRAE systems and applications, particularly as they relate to conservation of energy, energy recovery and IAQ. A low E certificate is an asset; if the successful candidate does not have one, he/she must commit to obtaining one.
The successful candidate must have considerable knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the HVAC trades, lockout and particularly the hazards relating to multi-power supply and automatic start of equipment. He/she must have strong verbal and written comprehension, customer service and interpersonal skills. This position requires a current B.C. Driver’s Licence.
Salary:
Compensation for this position includes an annual salary range of $45,911 to $54,056.00 (based on an hourly rate of $25.14 to $29.60 plus an excellent benefit and vacation package as well as an earned-days-off system. This position falls under the jurisdiction of CUPE Local 15(VMECW), 37.5 hours per week.
