The City of Nanaimo is seeking a permanent full-time Water Technician. Under the general supervision of the Senior Water Technician, the incumbent will carry out the installation, operation, modification, maintenance and treatment duties related to all water pump stations, pressure reducing stations, chlorination/screening plants, standby generators, satellite reservoirs and concrete dam structures. The incumbent will be required to perform general water quality laboratory analysis and government water sampling programs. The incumbent may be required to provide guidance to crews, contractors or consultants as needed and may be required to participate in the on-call rotation of personnel in the Water Department.
Completion of Grade 12, plus completion of a Water Technology Program or equivalent to qualify for an EOCP Operator Level III certification is mandatory.
Applicants must possess a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence and Chlorine Handler Certificate, and have certification as EOCP (Environmental Operator’s Certificate Program) Operator Level lll.
This is a unionized position ($33.29 per hour - after Probation (Jan 2013 Rate)) based on 40 hour work week. A comprehensive benefit package is included.
