The Administrative Clerk - Engineering performs complex clerical work in the Administration Section of the Engineering Department. This position assigns, directs, recruits, reviews and provides leadership for Engineering clerical staff located at City Hall. Additionally, this position processes Departmental damage or injury claims; prepares a variety of related reports and correspondence; issues and maintains work orders; issues permits and processes fee payments; obtains cost estimates for required projects and prepares necessary work orders for approval; prepares applications for outside utility permits; maintains related engineering records of a specialized and/or technical nature; reviews, develops and works with Engineering staff related to new office procedures and systems or enhancement of the same; handles public complaints and enquiries as required. Considerable independence of judgment and action is exercised within established policy and guidelines. The position performs related work as required.
Job Requirements:
Qualifications include High School graduation supplemented by technical, computer and supervisory courses plus sound related experience in a municipal engineering department, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. The position requires considerable knowledge of Engineering Department functions, procedures and practices along with considerable knowledge of other City Departments as they affect the operations of the Engineering Department. The ability to supervise and review the work of staff is needed as is the ability to work in a team setting and effectively provide leadership for the clerical team. Additionally the ability to prepare and maintain a variety of reports, records and files is key along with the ability to utilize related software(ie: Word; Excel; Hansen). The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal, external and public contacts is also required.
